Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of the Solomon Islands GNUT Leaders

Beijing, August 28th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a delegation of the Solomon Islands GNUT leaders led by Francis Sade, Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands.

Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands five years ago, bilateral relations have got off to a good start, developed rapidly and achieved fruitful results. The development of bilateral relations in the past five years shows that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands is a correct historical decision made by both sides, which is not only in the interests of the two countries and peoples, but is also in line with the general trend of world development and conducive to promoting international fairness and justice. The Chinese side appreciates the Solomon Islands' adherence to the one-China principle and is willing to work with the Solomon Islands to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to firmly support the Solomon Islands in independently exploring a path of sustainable development, support each other on issues involving respective core interests and major concerns, and promote bilateral relations for continuous development. China's cooperation with Pacific Island Countries is open and transparent. We are willing to work with all parties to jointly promote the prosperity and development of the region on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands, exchanges between the political parties of the two sides have continued to deepen, playing an important role in enhancing political mutual trust, promoting exchanges and mutual learning, advancing practical cooperation, and deepening people-to-people friendship between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the political parties of the Solomon Islands, deepen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, promote practical cooperation through the "Party +" model and better benefit the people of the two countries. Liu also introduced the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

Sade agreed with Liu on his comment about bilateral relations, saying that the Solomon Islands experienced the most rapid development since the establishment of diplomatic relations five years ago. He expressed that the decision to establish diplomatic relations with China shows that the Solomon Islands stands on the right side of history. During the visit to China, the GNUT delegation members deepened their understanding of China and the CPC, and strengthened their confidence and determination to develop relations between the two countries. The Solomon Islands will adhere to the one-China principle, firmly abide by Resolution 2758 adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, work with the Chinese side to promote the implementation of the three major global initiatives, actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind. The GNUT is willing to learn the experience in state governance and administration from the CPC to better promote national development and enhance people's well-being.
